He Has A Name
Paige is still fuming driving back to her apartment to finish her workday. Honestly, with the way her office smells it is entirely possible she will be working from home more than just today.
Who does he think he is? she thinks.
Stopping for the first red light she encounters; she pulls out her cell phone and places another call to David’s supervisor. His actions are totally unacceptable, and he should be fired! She takes some deep breaths while she waits for his supervisor to pick up. Cooling down she realizes that leaving a voicemail is the option presenting itself right now as the supervisor isn’t picking up. Maybe that’s best considering how upset she is over that smelly trash being left in her office.
Leaving a cool voicemail, she briefs the supervisor on what she encountered in her office and leaves her cell number for him in the event he has questions.
Reaching the parking lot outside of her apartment, she grabs her briefcase and heads into her apartment. She quickly sets up the laptop in her breakfast nook and shoots an email to her team letting them know she’s at home working.
Sending a separate email to her boss she explains the details of why she is at home in full. She no sooner hits send on that email when her work cell rings. It is her boss calling.
After a brief conversation about what transpired this morning, he offers to call the next level in the cleaning company. Paige shares she left a message for David’s boss and hopes to hear from him. She suggests that possibly they wait until she hears back from him.
Her boss agrees, tells her not to worry about working from home, and if she needs further action on this to reach out.
She thanks him, says goodbye and the call ends.
She returns to her plans for the day and reaches out to set up calls with her team for their touch base calls. Working through the calls, she forgets about the horrors of the morning and focuses on work.
He wakes up hours later, stretches, and heads to the window in the kitchen. Knowing he’s off tonight, he begins brewing coffee and patiently waits for the departures of people from the buildings to begin. Although he’ll miss watching her leave work this evening, he knows there will be the others to watch.
The coffee is done so he pours a cup and heads into the living room to his chair. Settling down and taking a sip of his coffee he waits. It isn’t too long before the couple from her building come out walking side by side. They appear to be deep in conversation, their heads bent close together. Anyone looking at them would think they were just peers, but he knows better.
He watches them walk into the parking garage and disappear into the elevator. When the doors open on the fifth floor, they are embracing and step off holding hands. Their conversation continues as they are heading towards their cars. Once they reach the cars, there is a long kiss and then they separate each getting into their own car. He suspects that their conversation continues on the way home with their partners unsuspecting because after all, they work together.
Sometimes he can’t help wondering why people don’t realize that with the vestibules having a glass wall the entire way up the parking garage, it allows people to see what occurs on each floor. Just because they aren’t down on the street doesn’t mean they can’t be seen. Except for the pillars and the steps, he has a full view of each floor in the parking garage.
Shaking his head, his gaze returns to her office building and he sees the maintenance man coming out with another man.
The guy in the suit is obviously upset and he suspects he’s yelling as his hands are really waving. The maintenance man is standing stiffly beside the front door with his hands balled into fists.
This is getting interesting; he thinks watching the body language of both men and taking another sip of coffee.
All of a sudden, the maintenance man is saying something and using his pointer finger to poke the chest of the guy in the suit. He can see the maintenance man leaning in close to the suit guy and saying something. Then the man in the suit simply turns his back on the maintenance man and walks away. He watches the suit guy slip into a car parked along the street. His eyes slide back to the maintenance man who is now standing with his arms crossed, watching the suit guy leave.
Wonder what he said, he thinks. The suit guy backed down quickly.
He takes another sip of his coffee and watches the maintenance man go back into the office building wondering what just happened.
Continuing to watch the buildings empty and people head out of the city, he finishes his coffee. Remembering that a new day is coming and with that new day comes another morning watching her.
