Chocolate Cake

Daisy flopped on her bed in the room they shared. “How was it?”

Em placed her bookmark between the pages she was at and closed the book. “It was nice.”

“That’s it? It was nice?”

Em grinned. “It was very nice. Shouldn’t we be getting ready for dinner?”

“I don’t feel like changing. Anything goes here. Let’s just go in what we have on.”

“I’m game.”

After they touched up their hair and spritzed perfume, they made their way to the restaurant in the hotel’s lobby.

Seated, and the menu in front of her face, Daisy asked, “Did he hold your hand or kiss you?”

Em giggled. “I can’t believe it took you this long to ask. We held hands, and I got a kiss on the cheek. And, he asked me to dinner tomorrow night. Do you care if we don’t go out together tomorrow night? He invited you along, but I told him I didn’t think you needed to join us.”

She lowered the menu. “He included me?”

Em nodded.

“That was nice. And thoughtful. I’m glad you told him I didn’t need to join you guys. Just give me his cell number in case you don’t come back tomorrow night.”

“I’ll be back. He told me about his family and his drama ridden sisters. I like him Daisy. A lot.”

“He seems nice, but you hardly know him. How can you like him already?”

“I don’t know. It makes little sense to me either, but there’s something there. I don’t want to ignore it.”

“Okay. I’m not sure I understand, but okay. What are you ordering?”

Their dinner over, Em walked back to the room while Daisy returned to the casino floor.

Em checked the drawers in the room and, after locating the Gideon Bible, headed to her bed. She curled her legs beneath her, clutching the book. Does she start at the beginning? Her family didn’t attend church. She’d attended with friends when she’d slept over as a child, but this, this was new. She pulled her cell phone out of her handbag and text Noah.

He replied.

She turned to John, chapter three, and began reading.

Daisy bounced into the room. “What a night. The place is hopping and the machines are loose.”

She raised her head. “So, you came back with money?”

“Oh yeah, and then some.”

Em watched as Daisy danced around the room with her arms raised and her hips wiggling. A smile appeared on her lips. “Good for you. That sets you up for tomorrow. Speaking of tomorrow, what are you going to do about dinner?”

“The same as I do when you don’t come with me. Room service. I use the dining credits they give me. It’s all good. In fact, let’s call for desserts now and rent a movie.”

“It’s ten o’clock.”

“Who cares? We’re on vacation. I’m getting the cheesecake. What do you want?”

“Anything chocolate.”

“How about the triple layer cake?”

“Sold.”
