Thankfulness

Can you believe it’s Thanksgiving this week already? Even with the challenges that 2020 has thrown, the year has moved quickly. It’s the start of the holiday season and for many, including me, this year will look very different than past years.

Even with the changes and practically non-existent traveling, I still have many reasons to be thankful.

  1. I am pursuing a dream that I’ve talked about for more than thirty years
  2. My family is supporting the pursuit of my dream
  3. I have been stress free for nineteen months since leaving my middle-management position
  4. I have lost thirty-five pounds (my friends believe this is due to no stress in my life)
  5. I am sleeping better than I had the last fifteen years of that middle-management job
  6. My family
  7. My friends

I could go on and on, but I think you get the gist.

If you have days where you struggle to be thankful, don’t worry you aren’t alone. There are days when my writing isn’t going well, or it’s stopped. Those are the days I must start with the little things such as the sunshine, the crisp air, or that I was able to get all the laundry done. When we start being thankful for the little things, we’ll find our list grows to bigger things and it may help change our mindset for the rest of the day. Even when I was rear ended this summer in a car that was only four months old, I was thankful that no one was hurt, and I could still drive my car home. There is a silver lining accompanying those dark clouds. Sometimes we just have to start with a piece of the silver lining and continue until the lining is complete.

For those that celebrate, Happy Thanksgiving!

1 Thessalonians 5:18 “ …  give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
