Inside the Police Station

Mouth hanging open, Mike stares at Bo and his crew all handcuffed. The noise is deafening as they are yelling at the police and the police are yelling at them. Now he isn’t sure that he has the full picture of what happened to Paige.

Bo sees Mike, nods towards him and yells at the cop who has him, “He’ll tell you. It was an inside job. I did the hit but none of my guys were involved.”

A whistle pierces the air and silence descends on the room.

There is a tall woman with short, dark hair standing at an open office door with a whistle in her mouth. She drops the whistle, yelling, “Listen up. Everyone who is in cuffs needs to sit down at the desk of the officer they are with and shut their mouths so we can gather your statements. Anymore dissension and you’ll be visiting a cell until you cool down.”

Mike watches as every man in cuffs sits down, quietly grumbling. Shaking his head in amazement, he is unsure of who to approach with his information. Lucky for him, he doesn’t have to approach anyone because the woman with the whistle is walking towards him.

“I’m Lieutenant Smyth. Understand from one of the folks detained, you have some information for us.”

“I have information about the robbery of Paige.”

“Follow me to my office.”

Mike follows her back to her office.

She motions for him to sit down and then closes her office door. Settling behind her desk, she brings out a recorder along with a tablet. “Tell me what you saw and what you know.”

“I live in an apartment that is directly across from the parking garage. Bo has delivered something in a paper bag to the maintenance man of the building where Paige works.”

“To be clear, we are talking about Paige Whyte who works at Rezon?”

“Yes, that is correct. I then saw Bo get out of his car one morning, come barreling down the sidewalk and knock Paige over grabbing her briefcase with her laptop. When I saw him coming, I ran out of my apartment and across the street hoping I’d be there before him, but I wasn’t. As a medical professional, I assessed her and stayed until the ambulance came.”

“That’s it?”

“No. I was incensed that someone would do such a thing and wanted to find out why. Approaching the maintenance man on one of his breaks and he takes many, I asked him what was delivered in the paper bag he received from Bo. He tells me food and gives me the name Cheese & Saucers so then I walk there. Give money to Bo to get me the name of the guy who requested the deed. Turns out, it’s this guy Joe in Paige’s building.”

“What do you know about Joe?”

“I know he’s bad news. He was involved with a peer for a while, she was married. He didn’t care because he continued to see her. There was something going on based on the make out sessions I saw in the parking garage. Then the relationship went south, she won’t talk to him now, and he’s not happy about it. I believe he’s got a temper. I didn’t see him come in to work today though.”

“You can see his comings and goings from your apartment?”

“Yes ma’am.”
